Volunteers Professionals Community - FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

AHA notified members in April that it would disband AHVRP and would seek a new home for the organization that offered better alignment to its ongoing mission while also supporting its history and legacy.  We were excited to step up and offer that home, believing volunteer professionals and the volunteers they oversee have a tremendous impact on the patient experience. AHVRP’s community of over 1,100 members became part of the Institute effective July 31, 2020, and AHVRP resources, including its webinar archive, publications and learning programs, are in the process of being incorporated into our library of patient experience resources. 

The Beryl Institute will honor the remaining time on any AHVRP memberships in place at the time of the transition. In addition, the Institute will grandfather the AHVRP regular member rate of $175 for the next renewal cycle for all memberships. Beginning in 2022, the Institute’s standard membership rate will apply. AHVRP members have access to the full benefits of membership through the Institute.

We also offer an organizational membership option that provides access to all employees within an organization. Many former AHVRP members are part of hospitals or health system with organizational memberships and will automatically become part of that membership, meaning their fees will be covered as long as that organizational membership is in place.

To help maintain the connections and focus of AHVRP we have created a special interest community for Volunteer Professionals.  The community will be co-chaired by volunteer leaders and will include multiple work groups to ensure the focus on relevant topics and networking among volunteer professionals continues. The community will publish a monthly newsletter highlighting Volunteer Professionals-specific content, upcoming events and announcements. The Volunteer Professionals Community will also have a dedicated meeting at the Institute’s annual Patient Experience Conference.

We will add a volunteer professionals track, community gathering, and exhibit area to our annual Patient Experience Conference. A call for submissions for breakout sessions for the 2021 conference, currently scheduled for April 7-9, 2021 in San Diego, CA, will open in early September. A special Work Group of volunteer leaders will be formed to review Volunteer-related submissions and to plan details of the community gathering.

Eileen Pelletier, AHVRP’s President, Cheryl Call, AHVRP’s President-Elect, and Linda Fisher, AHVRP’s Past President (at the time of the transition) have joined our Patient Experience Advisory Board as well as serve as co-leaders for the Institute’s new Volunteer Professionals Community. In the coming months, we will invite additional Volunteer Professionals to serve on our other boards and councils.

The remaining AHVRP webinars have been added to our upcoming webinars list at their originally scheduled time and will be delivered through our Adobe Connect webinar platform. If you have registered for one of these webinars, our team will contact you with updated login information. If you have not yet registered, you can do that here. Additionally, we will incorporate new Volunteer Professionals-related webinars and content to our library of resources regularly based on community needs and feedback.

The AHVRP Listservs have been replaced with a Volunteer Professionals Community in PX Connect, our online community designed to improve communication among peers, offer a forum for exchanging ideas and allow members to benefit from the experience, knowledge and expertise of others.

PX Connect offers enhanced discussion capabilities, improved member directory search, granular privacy controls, centralized subscription management and resource sharing.

Members have the opportunity to post questions, share knowledge and have the option to get posts in real-time, daily digest or not at all. All resources, discussions and documents are archived and easily searchable.

A Publication Work Group will be forming soon to review all books previously available through AHVRP. The work group will confirm if content is still relevant and/or is in need of any updates prior to publications being added to our PX Bookstore. Updates on In a Nutshell began prior to the transition, and we hope to release an updated version of this foundational publication in Fall 2020.

Yes, any educational activity approved for Patient Experience Education Credits will also qualify as continuing education for CAVS per current program requirements. Participants can earn  Patient Experience Continuing Education Credits (PXEs) for the following learning activities and events:

·       Webinars

·       PX Body of Knowledge Courses

·       Patient Experience Pop-Up Events

·       Patient Experience Conference

PXEs can be claimed through Patient Experience Institute

National Health Care Volunteer Week is aligned with the 40+ year legacy of National Volunteer Week, an opportunity to recognize the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to tackle society’s greatest challenges, to build stronger communities and be a force that transforms the world.  In fact, we will be forming a Volunteer Week Work Group to help us discover how we can best support your Volunteer Week efforts.

While we do not directly support state chapters, we have listed the AHVRP-affiliated chapters on our Volunteer Professionals Community resource page and will highlight their events and offerings in the Volunteer Professionals monthly newsletter when possible.
