Stephanie Frederick, M.Ed., RN
Health Advocate/Educator/Improv for Health! Collaborator
As a health advocate and educator, Stephanie is focused on advocating for individual patient-clients to receive safe, quality care at all times, in all situations and guide them to healthcare options while supporting them in their choices. One current project she is working on is consulting, developing and coordinating Integrated Health Programs that treat the whole person, support self-care and partner with others to achieve the Triple Aim Goals of enhanced patient experience, reduced costs and improved population health.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENT IN YOUR ROLE?My most significant accomplishment was helping to implement holistic, integrated health models for patients, caregivers, healthcare organizations and insurers.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU ARE CURRENTLY FACING?I find the biggest challenge is finding organizational support and funding for new, innovative ways of healthcare delivery.
WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON THE FUTURE OF PATIENT EXPERIENCE?There's hope in new laws like ACA's section 2706 that direct states not to allow insurers to discriminate against any licensed health care provider working within their scope of practice to address any of the conditions covered by insurer plans (ie., acupuncturists would be reimbursed for the care of chronic pain sufferers). Patients want to know their options and be given choices that address the "cause" of their condition, rather than simply putting a band-aid on the symptoms (disease "management"). They want to be seen as "whole" individuals, with equal consideration for their mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, environmental and social health.
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR FUN WHEN NOT WORKING?I enjoy dance and expressive movement, cycling, racewalking, hiking, birdwatching and gardening.
WHY DID YOU JOIN THE BERYL INSTITUTE?It will take a unified effort, coming from diversified sources, to make the major cultural shift necessary in healthcare. The Beryl Institute is cohesive and innovative in its message and encourages the communication and collaboration that will lead the way to these changes.
