TOPIC: Empowering Staff to Manage Patient Behavioral Violence

Led by:
Randal Price, CSP, CEAS, CET, Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator, Cook Children's Health Care System
Jennifer Horn, RN, MSN, CPN, Quality Improvement Coordinator, Cook Children’s Health System

Join Cook Children’s as they share how they are working with Solutions for Patient Safety to reduce the number of employee injuries related to patients acting out aggressively toward staff. Their mission is to provide staff with the education and resources necessary to feel safe and confident providing behavioral support to all patients. They are developing a screening tool to identify the patients at risk for aggression on admission and prompt staff to work with the family to develop an individualized behavior support plan. By proactively collaborating with the family their hope is to keep both patients and staff safer at Cook Children’s.
