TOPIC: Language access for patients who are deaf, hard of hearing and limited English proficient

Led by Jorge U. Ungo, Strategic Account ExecutiveLanguageLine Solutions and Jim Pfeiffer, Regional Vice-President and National Onsite Interpreting Sales Manager, LanguageLine Solutions

Effective communication between patients and healthcare providers results in shorter stays, reduced readmission rates, better patient satisfaction and more. Unfortunately, communication barriers are a primary cause of insufficient access to health care, particularly for patients who are Deaf, hard of hearing or limited English proficient. By developing a language access plan and implementing comprehensive language service solutions, healthcare organizations can better serve this vulnerable patient population and mitigate exposure to legal and/or financial risk for the healthcare organization.
