Understanding, Equity, Inclusion and Cultural Differences: Enhancing the Patient Experience

The presentation will address: 1) Raising awareness of cultural factors and beliefs that impact cultural competence in terms of how we provide care to patients; 2) Focusing on the capacity to function effectively as individuals or an organization within the context of cultural beliefs and behaviors of diverse communities; 3) Identifying tools to enhance communication with patients; and 4) Practicing inclusivity to achieve equity.

Learning Objectives

  • Summarize how diversity, inclusion, equity and cultural effectiveness impact the patient experience.
  • Discuss how a person’s background may affect the way he or she provides and/or receives care.
  • Design questions about an individual’s cultural context that may result in better care, increased patient safety and higher satisfaction overall.
