Up the Water Spout: Tragedy, Resiliency and Hope
Healthcare is a continuous story of tragedy, resiliency and hope for patients and clinicians. It is within these stories that we find the hidden assets and resources to partner and transform care. This session will explore innovative and effective ways to lead and encourage the partnerships within healthcare that can improve safety, quality and patient and staff experiences.
Tiffany Christensen approaches her work from the perspective of a life-long patient CF patient having received 2 double lung transplants and a professional patient advocate. She is a nationally recognized public speaker and the author of three books exploring advocacy, end of life planning and partnership strategies in healthcare. Currently, Tiffany is the Performance Improvement Specialist at the NC Quality Center working on operationalizing PFE across North Carolina. Christensen is running a North Carolina PFAC and Speakers' Bureau while also creating customized plans for North Carolina Hospitals working at taking their PFE efforts--bedside and PFAC Table--to the next level.
Tanya Lord PhD, MPH is currently the Director of Patient and Family Engagement at the Foundation for Healthy Communities in New Hampshire, a partner organization of the NH Hospital Association. She works with all NH hospitals to develop and enhance patient engagement programs. Tanya also works as a patient safety, quality improvement, and patient/family engagement consultant nationally. Tanya has shared her son’s story of medical error and the importance of engaging and communicating with patients and families at key note presentations and conference workshops. She is also a co-founder of The Grief Toolbox, which offers tools to help those along the grief journey.
Drumbeat Messaging – Communication Techniques to Advance your PX Strategy
Improving the patient experience requires strategic communication practices that not only keep people informed but excite, engage and propel them to become part of the journey. In this session, Kristin will define communication strategies and tactics PXPs can use to develop a patient experience language and brand within the organization. Participants will define drumbeat messaging, explore how a strategic communication plan will help the PXP in advancing the journey, evaluate advantages of collaboration with marketing and communications, review examples from other healthcare organizations and practice preparing messages that link to the mission, vision and values.
Kristin brings over 35 years experience to the platform sharing her wit and wisdom gained through years as an RN, hospital executive, and as a nationally recognized thought leader on the patient experience. As a consultant, she has worked with hospitals, health systems, medical groups and long term care facilities all over the country helping them to understand and improve the patient experience. Kristin has written hundreds of articles on culture, patient experience and leadership. She is an active blogger and the author of several books and white papers. She’s a woman on a mission to make healthcare better for patients and the people who serve them. Prior to forming the Baird Group, Kristin was Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Watertown Area Health Services. Prior to that she held marketing and clinical positions at several hospitals including public health. Her combined clinical and marketing background gives her great insight into the patient experience from all angles.
