Co-Chairman and Co-Founder
Talent Plus, Inc.
In her current role as Co-Chairman of Talent Plus ®, Kimberly leads a global team helping companies maximize their most valuable resource, their people. She focuses on making sure the right people are in the right roles, from front line nurses to hospital executives. Specifically regarding healthcare, Kimberly is passionate about impacting patient lives by using The Science of Talent ® to identify and develop the most talented individuals in the healthcare industry today.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENT IN YOUR ROLE?Positively impacting patient lives. Talent Plus feels this is such an important metric that we track it with our current healthcare clients. Calculated based on annual inpatient discharges of our clients, we impacted 1 million patient lives in less than two years. We know that number grows exponentially when you take into account additional categories such as out-patient and Emergency Department visits or specialty hospital and clinic patients. Likely, in the short time we’ve been tracking this metric, the number is closer to 5 million patient lives impacted and this doesn’t take into account the effect on the lives of the healthcare workers. We believe these are powerful metrics showing that our scientifically, validated science to help select and develop the very best medical professionals is yielding impressive results.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU ARE CURRENTLY FACING?Helping organizations to understand the importance of selecting people using a scientifically-based tool rather than hiring to fill the immediate need. When you identify people with a natural talent for a specific job role, they will be more productive, more efficient, more engaged and ultimately more profitable. In turn this decreases turnover, increases HCAHPS and patient satisfaction scores, which in turn yields bottom line dollars. Most important, it better serves the patient’s health and experience, increasing the reputation of the healthcare institution.
WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON THE FUTURE OF PATIENT EXPERIENCE?Ultimately, my focus is always on people. We know from our proven science, time and time again, what a powerful impact we can have on the lives of individuals and entire organizations. People want to feel significant and when they are placed in a role that they are naturally gifted in and comes easily to them, they find significance in doing something that is bigger than themselves and investing in a principle, not just working a job. This means, not only does our science impact individuals, but it develops leaders within every organization and changes cultures. Engagement and retention ultimately reflect key outcomes in how both your clinical and non-clinical professionals respond to patients and their families. I am especially passionate about that when it comes to the patient experience. When a loved one is dependent on the expertise and care of a doctor, a nurse or a specialist, you want them to have the very best. That only happens if we take the time to select the right people at every level to care for our loved ones. That level of care you would want for your mother or father is the same level of care that should be extended to everyone. I am passionate about this, because I know our science works, and I know what a profound impact it can have on every patient that walks through the doors of a healthcare facility.
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR FUN WHEN NOT WORKING?There are not many days where finding talented people to help organizations grow isn’t the focus of my attention, but during the occasional respite, I very much enjoy spending quality time with my family.
WHY DID YOU JOIN THE BERYL INSTITUTE?Very simply, my passion for impacting patient lives aligns so closely with The Beryl Institute’s mission to influence patient care on all four dimensions: interactions, culture, perceptions and continuum of care. Ultimately, people are the ones who execute direction on those dimensions, and we know from the healthcare clients we’ve partnered with, that when you take the time to invest in selecting the very best from the beginning and giving them the opportunity to grow, you yield incredible results. I am honored to be associated with an organization devoted to impacting patient lives every day!
